For the 'Obles

Recently our good friend the Nobles (or, if you're one of the Nowack children, "The 'Obles") gave Owen a Webkinz for a birthday present. If you don't know what a Webkinz is....well, you're totally out of it and you can go here to learn more about it. Basically it's a stuffed animal that comes with an internet code so you can "play" online with it.
Owen loved his Webkinz and immediately named him "Best" (?I don't know and we don't ask?) and he carried it around non-stop for about 3 days. I'm also fairly certain that he snuck it into his backpack and took it to school the day after he got it.

Here he is the night that he got "Best", zonked out on the couch in front of the Christmas tree. Just thought that the 'Obles might like to see it. Consider this a virtual, visual thank you card. :)

That Face Looks Familiar

Today was the volleyball river party and of course I took my camera. Last time, there were some different members of the volley-family there, and this time...some new faces.

Here's Maggie on the tube today.....

And as she was holding on for dear life and grinning like a crazy leprechaun, and shouting out "Oh crap!" as she bounced over the waves.....I couldn't help but think that she looked an awful lot like her dad when he was doing the same thing just 2 short years ago.

don't you think so? LOL

Casey and His Yoga

AJ and I went down to Riverside/Turtle Park yesterday and who should we see but Casey Perkins skinny dipping in the Flint River.

Just kidding.

We actually went down there WITH Casey and we ALL went skinny dipping.

KIDDING AGAIN.
Ha. I crack myself up.

We went down there to take pictures of Casey doing some yoga and after finding this great spot on the River, we decided that this small island about 15 yards out would make a great place to do some yoga posing. So Casey stepped in, and walked out one step at a time and well...it ended up being a little deeper than he first anticipated. But he made it out there without being washed downstream so I stood on an outcropping of rocks and took pictures of his poses while AJ threw rocks in the river beside me.

Let's see if I can remember the names for all these poses.
Casey can correct me if I'm wrong...

[as always, click to enlarge]

Warrior III Pose (I think)

Warrior II

Tree Pose

I think this is a variation of Mountain Pose, but I'm not sure what it's called....

A backbend, obviously - I think it might be called Wheel Pose or something....

A variation of Pigeon

Casey is about a week away from being a certified Yoga instructor, and FYI - he's a fantabulous teacher. No really, he is.

If you've ever wanted to try Yoga, email Casey or call up to Kai Yoga on Westover and find out when he's teaching next. Yoga has a lot of health benefits and I've enjoyed doing it several times over the last month - so have Lisa, Cassie, Clint, Amy, and Erica.
You should check it out!

It's Addicting I Tell Ya

I swiped this pic off of Cassie's Facebook account, for all the blogosphere to see.
It all began with Casey, who roped Lisa and I into trying out a yoga class.
10 Downward Dogs and 8 Pigeon Poses later, and we had Steve-o, Clint, Amy, and Cassie at their first yoga class.

You should give it a try!

Good times, good times.....

:)

We Love HER

Let's talk about Erica, a.k.a. The Wise Libero in our comments section. I first met Erica my first year coaching at Sherwood. She was playing volleyball, but simultaneously playing softball as well. I remember thinking she must be something special for the coaches to be ok with her only attending half of the practices and still be allowed to play. There were some days where she would run into the gym with all her catcher's gear on, sprint to the locker room, change her clothes and then run onto the floor to play a volleyball game.
And what do you know? She WAS something special. The girl literally went an entire season and only practiced with us 4 or 5 times and she was one of our best players. She would've been a college volleyball player, if only the evil clutches of softball had not seized her first (like, when she was 7). Alas, she did not start volleyball until a highschooler, and by then - it was too late. Her vertical jump would not exceed 4.5 millimeters.

Anyway....at first glance, she doesn't seem the type to like kids, but they are drawn to her like some sort of Pied Piper. She babysat our kids the first time, and they were hooked. They LOVED her - she played with them, she was fun, she had boundless energy, she would play trains and do exactly what we want her to. Of course mom lets us eat butter.

In the 2 years since, she has become our primary/only babysitter and on more than one occasion, the boys have asked me "where's Erica?" or thrown the line, "I want Erica to do it!", and on more than a few occasions, "No! Like this! Like Erica does it!"

One night she had watched the boys, put them to bed and gone home around 11. That night around 3am, AJ had come wandering down the hall crying, in one of his late night sleep-talking, incoherent funks. I picked him up to take him back to bed and he says, "No! I waaaaaaant Ewiiiiiiiica!" ::sob, sob, cry, cry::

She's going to be a doctor. A brain surgeon. She says she'll give me a surgery free of charge, should ever I need one. Her birthday was last week. She's catches for Russian softball pitchers. We're going skydiving together soon. She hates pink. She has a one-armed putt-putt swing. And she makes cookies for her creepy neighbor.

Today she came over to our house and played with my boys. Not because she had to, because she wanted to. She let me take Tyler and run to the grocery store, and while I was gone, she loaded O and A into her truck and took them to the park and the zoo.

If you try to steal her away from us, I'll kill you with a blunt object.

And if we ever move away, she's coming with us. And that's all there is to it.

News & Happenings from My Peeps

Just so you know and don't miss out (I like for everyone to be in the know so they can feel cool), you shouldn't miss the last couple posts on Casey's blog which have had some uber cool art-related themes. The video he just posted yesterday is SO, SO cool and worth the 5 minutes to watch - the end will knock your socks off.

My friend and former college roomate (now THAT would be some good blog fodder, oh my) Amy, has her own interior design biz in my former "hometown" (I used quotations because it's not actually my hometown that I grew up in, but I consider it home) Grand Rapids and she has rock'n ideas of style and decor - you should check her out. And if you're lucky you can occasionally see pictures of her adorable daughter. Although right now she's vacationing in California, the bum.

My friend and soul-sista (cuz she just "gets me") Amy ( I know a lot of Amy's) has returned to the world of blogging. She's slightly random, but her posts are thought-provoking. She has five kids AND great hair, so that alone makes her worth reading, in my opinion. And she's throwing out everything in her kitchen made from China. Check it out.

Cyber-friend Ness over at Happiness Is a Butterfly has discovered her inner artist and is also a part-time treasure recyler/ebayer. If you're into vintage, ecclectic, classic treasures, check out her ebay auctions or stick around her blog and read her introspections about life in general. She's almost always an interesting read.

Speaking of artists, want to watch a highschooler as she evolves into a photographer? Check out Steve's former student, O & A's former babysitter, Katie, who has been accepted to SCAD in the fall. She's coming along quite nicely. And I'll take the full credit for her success. Okay, not really, but I'd like to.

And then there's Clint, who I guess is sort of cool, when he's not stuck in 4 feet of mud. He and his daughter Cassie went on a mission trip to Peru last year and they're gearing up to go again this year. His experiences were/are life changing and it's interesting to see him work it all out in his mind and post about it in blogger land. They designed these really cool tshirts as a way to fund raise their trip to Peru, so you should DEFINITELY go buy one, or just make a donation to their trip if you don't want a shirt. They do good things over there. In PERU.
Donate. Now. All the cool kids are doing it.

Amy Lynn and Daniel - this one's for you!

I've spent the evening proofing pictures of Zac's birth, even though I should've been doing other sessions with higher priority. Lucky for you, I just couldn't help myself! :)
I should have everything ready for you this weekend, but in the meantime, here's another one that I really liked and wanted to show you.

First Breath...

Friday Night Football

Steve-o is out of town tonight to do radio for an away football game (which he rocks at, if I may brag on my hubby a bit. which I can, because it's my freak'n blog). Anyway, I snapped this pic at last Friday's football game. You can Steve-0 up in the Tree-House, or Eagle's Nest, or Satan's Perch of Death - whatever they call it. It's at the top of the bleachers. On top of the Press Box. You have to climb a ladder to get there. On this particular Friday, my best bud Lisa had to climb Mount Danger to do a radio interview at half time. She was excited to rise to the physical challenge of fording through the fans, swarming gnats and mosquitoes, slicing her way through the scent of sweaty humanity for her 5 minutes of fame. click to enlarge. :)

Joy Conquers

It has been a sad week around here (see previous post). Thursday morning dawned cloudy and grey with a viewing and a funeral on the day's docket.
I picture a chess game began in the greater scheme of things, in the spiritual realm, that Thursday morn.

Move:
Sadness.
Tears.
A Funeral.
Death.

Counter-move:
Anticipation.
Joy.
Birth.
New Life.

Beat that.
