We usually paint every Wednesday or Thursday, because the entire city of Albany is delivered a free newspaper on Wednesday and we use the newspaper under the paint. Got it??
Anyway, we hit Hobby Lobby this a.m. and bought some $1 wood trinkets -tiny birdhouses, airplanes, boats, etc (GREAT cheap afternoon activity for all you moms out there!) and I set up the paint stuff on the kitchen table after lunch.
Me: Time to paint!
Them: SCREAMS of ecstasy...."YAY!!! PAINT!!!" (they're easily amused)
Owen sits down at his paint station and says,
"Boy...paint is great, lemme tell you...."
And proceeds to go into a 45 second monologue on the joys of paint, and the color he has chosen to start with today, Orange.
It may not seem like much but it always takes me aback when my firstborn baby sounds so grown up.

Orange: what a great color!
That's weird, I just left your blog for a second to find a link for you and wahlah! a new post.
Cool.
I have to go p/u the kids but I just caught up on your blogs for the past week and I have a link for you, related to the "blog book" you posted about.
Here it is:

Talk later! Gotta p/u the kids. 1/2 day first days are weird!
The entire city of Albany gets a paper except for our house. Since we are a corner house we get jipped EVERY FREAKIN WEDNESDAY.
But I am not bitter.
You're so organized...every Wed this, every Thurs that. Oh by the way, I just had a baby (by C-section, no less) and I coach a Varsity volleyball team.
I bought some rocks to steal your little ladybug-paintin' crafty-craft about, oh I don't know, two months ago. We just painted them YESTERDAY...and only b/c I had four kids under seven at my house for 3 1/2 hours and it was 101 degrees outside. We desperately needed an indoor activity.
What an awesome Mom! I'm serious here...you inspire me (and shame me) to do more with my kids.
Thanks for the thrifty ideas too.
Kiss Tyler's soft hair and sniff him for me, will you??? I do miss newborn baby smell.
As soon as G gets paid again, I have a couple of things to send to Tyler. And they're totally NOT practial. Fun, Fun!
Amy -
Dont forget I run my own business too. And be a good wife as well. Hah! And lemme just tell you that things about to start crashing down around my head.Im hardly the bar by which to set your mothering sights on...Half the time I dont know what the heck is going on.
And you BOUGHT rocks?? Way to go! I just stole mine from Starbucks. Although I intended to take the ladybugs back home they seem to still be hanging around my kitchen counter. One of these days....
As for newborn baby smell...Tyler has perpetually stinky hair. Did any of your kids do that?? Just yesterday morning I washed his hair with lavender-scented shampoo, even dusted a little baby powder in there and by afternoon when Casey stopped by he says, "His hair smells a little funny"
*sigh*
UN-practical gifts are the best kind, by the way. :)
Stinky hair, huh?
Does he sit under your armpit when you nurse him?
Just a thought. :0)
Oh, and the good wife goes without mentioning.
You TOOK ladybugs from their home? I think my stellar mom-image of you just faltered a wee bit.
