Tammi, I am LOVING your pics. I also really liked your photo. 101 session you did. It makes me want a new camera. Mine is an OLD digital and I can't set the aperture manually. Would you mind recommending a good beginner camera? I just want to be able to take decent kid pics and enlarge them. Money is an object...but my b-day is coming...so hopefully not too big of an obstacle. Thanks!

Hey Heidi! I've fallen behind on photography 101 with the holidays, but I'm hoping to start it up again.

If you're looking for a digital point and shoot, I would recommend the Canon Powershot.
If you're looking for a starter DSLR, I would recommend the Canon Rebel, or the Nikon D40 or D80.

Hope that helps! :)

ok...I have a canon powershot...an old 2 megapixel. It's the A40 model. Do I just need to learn how to use it? I really liked the effect of focusing on the kids but having the backgroud smooth/blurry. Can my camera do that? I got it when we had #2 in 2002...oh, and what's a DSLR?

You should be able to manually adjust your settings. You'll have to check your manual for the exact instructions on how to do so.
Here's info about your camera:
http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/A40/A40A.HTM

And here's your camera's manual, if you've lost it:
http://www.canon.com.au/products/cameras/digital_compact_cameras/powershota40_manuals.aspx

A DSLR is a digitial single lens reflex camera....which is just a fancy name for a camera that you can change lenses on, with large image sensors and zero lag-time.

Tammi...thanks a bunch! I feel like I have a new camera! I have a lot to read and learn. What is the 1/1000 thing I can change? It says exposure? I need another lesson...

It's your shutter speed....like 1/10000th of a second. Pretty fast. :)

The next Photography 101 lesson will be on Shutterspeed....if I ever get around to doing it. :) Hopefully in the next few days.
