Spring Break Part II

Our second day at the beach dawned cloudy and slightly cold. AJ and I were the first up at 6:30 so we put on some warmer clothes and went for a walk on the beach. We got caught in a little drizzle so we headed back to the rooms. Everyone else was up by then and after the drizzle stopped, we saw this off our balcony.

Ever since our arrival, there had been a red flag posted on the beach (rough water) and a purple flag (beach "pest" - which can mean anything from jelly fish to sting rays to "dangerous fish" or, in other words - sharks). After the rainbow faded away and as we ate our breakfast on the balcony we saw this out in the water. What could it be? A shark perhaps?? TWO sharks??

Nope. Just some bottlenose dolphins. We later learned that the rain from the night before had changed the currents and brought in a lot of fish from the sea to the shallower waters off the coast - perfect feeding food for dolphins. Or sharks I guess. But luckily we didn't see any of those.
Aren't they beautiful??
By 10 am the sun was back out and it was getting nice and toasty again, without a cloud in the sky.
AJ and Owen decided they wanted to head over to the pools for a dip in the pool.
Owen with grandpa.
A little out of focus, but I like it anyway.
Owen strikes a Calvin Klein pose for me.
And then the dolphins were back. We saw them about 3 times that day. This time the picture's a little better since we were actually down on the beach. And you can see how close they were to actual people. There was a sandbar about 20 yards off shore --you can see where it is where that wave is breaking. It was shallow enough that once you swam out to it you could stand on it and the water was only about thigh-high -- and the dolphins were swimming just beyond it.
Love this one of Steve and the boys.
And that's it.....hope you enjoyed.
I did....and I think I'm ready for another vacation. Screw work and everyday life....I think I'd like to live in a hotel. On the beach. With a king-side bed. And a spa downstairs. And room service. And someone to do my laundry everyday. And drinks and snacks brought to me on my very own beach side lounge chair. And a personal masseuse. Ok, well...maybe that's a little TOO much.

The two years we lived in FL, we saw dolphins swimming around us only once but it was AWESOME. And everyone stops and just watches them perform their water ballet. They're beautiful.

I heard once that wherever there are dolphins, there are sharks. Maybe a wive's tale, who knows.

When we lived in FL about ten years ago, we lived on a canal that went directly to the river then directly to Cocoa beach. Yeah, it was great; what were we thinking to move?
Anyway, we used to tube in the river all the time and I was videotaping Gerald one time, hoping to catch a major wipeout, when I filmed a dolphin jumping right behind him. THAT was cool.

Okay, I realize I probably need to blog on the subject of "ocean things" in the rivers and canals of Florida.

Your children are gorgeous and always, oddly, looking perfect for pictures; sort of like little celebrities. Are they naturally "pic perfect" or have you anything to do with this? :)

Baby Ticker:

"Baby practices rolling his eyes for those teenage years."

Have you started practicing your speech for this monumental event?

We have two eye rollers now and they're lucky I'm pretty even tempered, although they have heard "the lecture"

It only helps for awhile and then the eyes start rolling again.

What is it about rolling eyes that gets parents so MAD? It's only eyes...they're only rolling.

Start practicing your speech today; it'll be here before you know it.

amy-
as for the "dolphin" jumping up behind Gerald in the canal - it was probably in actuality a gator. Have you bee so far removed from beach/lake/river life that you've forgotten what the two look like? :) lol

oh and for the other thing.....

*roll eyes*
like, whatever.

I'm serious. I have it on tape. It was DEFINITELY a dolphin.

Okay, I'll explain. We lived on Merrit Island about a mile from Cocoa Beach/Cape Canaveral. There were lochs(sp?) between the Banana River and the Atlantic Ocean so you could take your boat thru them from the River to get to the Ocean.

Therefore, whatever was in the Ocean invariably ended up in the River. BTW, the River was salty just like the Ocean which caught me totally off guard the first time I fell off the tube. River, salt water in my eyes and mouth, ech!

Come visit and I'll pull out the tape.

If you roll your eyes at me again, I'll slap you silly. :0)
