I just read this article about a US Official who admitted that torture occurred in Guantanamo against a Saudi national who was alleged to have been planning to participate in the 9/11 attacks. She is the first senior Bush administration official responsible for reviewing practices at Guantanamo to publicly state that a detainee was tortured.
Thought I'd throw it up for discussion....what are you thoughts on Guantanamo? About torture? Should Guantanamo be shut down?

Okay, I'll go first on this one.
While I understand the "why" of torture, I don't ever see it addressed as acceptable in Scripture. That's how I view it - do unto others as you'd have them do unto you...that's in the Bible, right? (Now I have to go look it up.)
Regardless of whether you consider different forms of treatment torture or not, you always have to go back to the Golden Rule. Get the info you need legitimately.
I was a *mostly* Bush supporter and supported the war in general but I think torture is wrong in any way. That will be a black mark on his Presidency in my eyes.
Guantanamo Bay shut down? I'd have to research that but right off the top of my head, don't think it's a good idea but accountability needs to be brought in there for sure.
There you go.
OK.. Didn't want to answer to soon, but have been thinking about it. First of all, I'm no Biblical scholor, but I don't think the Golden Rule is in the Bible, but I understand Amy's point. Having said that-- in War, I don't know how far the Golden Rule applies. I know that if it involves the security of our Country, umm maybe -- I'm not for sure what the rules of the Geneva Convention are exactly, and maybe I need to know that before I can make an absolute decision. Again in War, maybe Guantanamo Bay has its place. No matter what you think of John McCain, I cannot imagine what that man went through. And as for the terriorist who were involved in 9/11...I have no sympathy for them -- . They would have none for the USA and did not. Is the USA a "turn the other cheek" country? Lots of good thought provoking stuff you sent out today girl!!!!!!!!!
yay, comments. :)
Amy - totally agree with you.
MomN - totally DISagree with you.
Dano - not sure why you deleted your comments. Fire away - I'm not going to press you...answer if you want to....or not. Either way, I'll listen. :)
I'm gonna write a whole post about what I think....
